IE Won't Open

I know most people reading this blog don't use IE, however, a lot of you are probably tech support peeps (either for friends or professional) so you may run into this:

IE just will not open, closes immidiately.

If the above issue only started recently, you may need to uninstall the Yahoo! Toolbar from the add\remove programs list.

I'm not sure if it was a bad update on MS's part or somthing else, but something went wrong. At the helpdesk where I work we've gotten quite a few calls on the issue and that fix has worked time and time again.

Just putting it out there sorta speak.

I should mention that I'm not the one that figured out this fix.

15x15 let's you get yor 15 - seconds - of fame. The site displays 15 boxes (3x5 style) each containing a user submitted 15 second film clip.

Literally, anyone can be on the site for at least 15 seconds.

Learning Linux

For anyone intrested in learning Linux, this site is really nice. It has easy to understand tutorials that you can do on your box. There's no better way to learn an OS than to try out the commands first hand. I taught myself DR DOS when I was about 13 that way.

I remember how great it felt when I finally figured out what Source and Target diskette's were. Granted I was only confused for a few minutes, learning how to copy stuff from one disk to another via command line was really neat.

Ah, DR DOS, those were the days.

Reg Edit For Faster HD Speeds

Force your HD to use UltraDMA-6 (if it supports it) with this Reg hack. It's gotten a ton of Diggs and seems to be valid. I didn't bother trying it since I'm currently using a Laptop with a 5400 RPM HD (no matter how you slice that it's slow as heck).

I Want This

One thing I`ll gladely give Microsoft is that they do hardware pretty well. This wireless, backlite keyboard looks nice and is intelligent enough to detect when the lights are off (it will automatically activate the backlight).

Chat With Locals

This site is kind of neat. It will throw you into a chat room with anyone else that has an IP address close to yours. It basically will group you with anyone that has the first to parts of the address in common, for example, if your IP was 192.168.2.10 (yes I know that's not a real world IP), then anyone else with an IP of 192.168.x.x would be in the same chat room.

Crack WEP With Ubuntu

Here's a great aticle on how to use Ubuntu (or most Linux Live CDs designed for security testing\penetration) to crack someone's WEP password.

If anyone out there checking this out is using WEP, it may be a good idea to look into setting up your gear for WPA (if it's supported). It's way more secure (with a good password) then WEP is.

Microsoft Censoring MSN Conversations

In an effort to protect users from Worms and other exploits, Microsoft has set a few limitations on what users can send each other in mesages. The strings download.php and gallery.php appear to have been blocked.

The question seems to be, will that actually help?
